We are looking for a qualified team player with experience in the IDPs situation, NGOs sector and data entry for the position of Protection/Child Protection Assistant, based in Fallujah- Al Anbar, Iraq.  
Who are we? 
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq.   
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450 national staff and 45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations. 
About the job:
The Protection Assistant is responsible for conducting protection and child protection activities under the supervision of the Protection Officer, including Child Friendly Spaces’ activities, protection monitoring, referrals and awareness raising activities, in all the geographical areas of implementation in Fallujah city. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support effective and timely implementation of the project’s activities under the supervision of the Protection Officer and provide constant feedback to supervisor on progress, achievements and challenges. 
  • Supervise the community based Volunteers, to ensure that activities are successfully implemented and protection needs are identified, recorded, analysed and followed-up with activities or referrals. Identify rehabilitation and material needs of community centre. 
  • Ensure protection monitoring and field assessment activities are carried out in a timely and technically sound manner, with a focus on child protection. Support data collection and report weekly on key issues and trends. 
  • Conduct and maintain updated service mapping, contribute to the establishment/maintenance of referral pathways, and ensure dissemination of clear and reliable information on service provision to beneficiaries. 
  • Support the identification and referral of Extremely Vulnerable Individuals and People with Specific Protection Needs for adequate assistance according to DRC pre-defined criteria, while maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality and consent. Conduct follow-up monitoring visits to ensure that needs have been met in an appropriate manner and beneficiaries have the opportunity to provide feedback on the assistance received. 
  • Provide regular timely internal reports and other relevant information on project activities based on agreed formats and schedule. Support the project indicators tracking in coordination with the Protection Officer. 
  • Guide and participate in the selection process of the beneficiaries meeting DRC criteria for both child protection and protection activities within the  programme, such as the Special Needs Fund. Ensure proper monitoring and follow up to evaluate the impact of such assistance. 
  • Provide logistics support, and coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure efficient day-to-day running of the operations. 
  • Liaise with relevant authorities, service providers and community groups in order to foster positive relationships and encourage national interest and ownership in protection of IDPs, returnees and other persons of concern. 
  • Contribute to capacity building of local organizations, community groups, and stakeholders on child protection/protection. 
  • Ensure synergy with other DRC sectors of intervention in the areas of responsibility. 
  • Ensure transparency and DRC’s positive regard and reputation within communities. 
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager, such as participating in external coordination meetings. 
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Code of Conduct and principles of confidentiality. 
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
About you:
To be successful in this role you must have:  
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience, preferably in humanitarian and development context, with a focus on Child Protection/Protection.  
  • Familiarity with international protection and human rights standards, with a special emphasis on child protection, would be a distinct advantage. 
  • Prior experience or familiarity with the NGO sector and persons of concern (including IDPs and returnees) would be a distinct advantage. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people from diverse communities, and for persons with special needs and other vulnerabilities. 
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills. 
  • Good data collection, reporting and analyzing skills.

Required qualifications: 
  • University degree in management, social sciences or similar field, or undergraduate degree.  
  • Arabic – Written and spoken, English is an advantage.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of local communities and customary rules. 
  • Punctuality and respect for applicable rules and procedures.

We offer: 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 2 Months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance.
* Working days will be only 3 days a week.
You must be available to start work from 22 October 2017 and be willing and able to work in Fallujah , Al Anbar.
