Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: 

  • Support in monitoring, analyzing and reporting on humanitarian developments in the area of coverage;
  • Support the collection of information to improve information products, such as who does what where database and reports; 
  • Support in liaising with national authorities and humanitarian partners at the sub-national level to ensure effective and smooth cross border operations;
  • Contribute to the preparation of various written reports including situation analysis, mission reports and periodical activity reports;
  • Review and provide advice on policy issues related to safeguarding humanitarian principles and ensuring the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance;
  • Participate in working groups, meetings, conferences, trainings, consultations with other agencies and partners with the aim of improving humanitarian and emergency relief-related matters;
  • Track information required for early warning of potential humanitarian emergencies and as appropriate promote preparedness measures, including inter-agency contingency planning;
  • Prepare briefing materials and presentations providing up-to-date analysis on trends and developments on the humanitarian and security situation in specific area of operation;
  • Monitor and analyze access constraints and liaise with the authorities to facilitate humanitarian access for the humanitarian community;
  • Support the monitoring team in all cross-border operations; 
  • Participate in selected cluster meetings and support outreach to international and national NGOs;
  • Maintain a network of local contacts among key stakeholders, including national authorities, customs, KRG officials and the humanitarian community;

Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Master’s Degree preferably in Political or Social Science, Law, International studies or other relevant science is required;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in combination with 2 additional years of relevant and qualifying experience in the field of humanitarian affairs may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.



  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant progressively professional responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management or other related areas, preferably with a United Nations agency or a Non-Governmental Organization;
  • Familiarity and good knowledge of social, political and economic conditions in the region;
  • Proven abilities in data collection, compilation, analysis and reporting with ability to write in a clear and concise manner and effective oral communication;
  • Proven skills in facilitating meetings and reporting.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Arabic and Kurdish is required.

Other skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks within an environment where many interruptions occur.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
