Protection Assistant (Protection Monitoring and Capacity Building)

Anbar, HTC (with frequent travels to Bzeibez, AAF, Fallujah, Garma and Saqlawiyah)

About the job

Implementation of protection monitoring and capacity building activities in designated areas.

Responsibilities

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Implementation of protection monitoring and capacity building activities ensuring qualitative and timely planning;
  • Elaborate on trends and protection situation analysis to feed into monthly reports.
  • Lead Focus Group Discussions, Key Informant Interviews, Household assessments and other protection monitoring activities in line with targets,
  • Maintain regular and positive collaboration with the colleagues to harmonize approaches and methodologies of response, share challenges and best practices and ensure that protection is mainstreamed into the other sectors of intervention.
  • Conduct regular field participatory protection monitoring and assessments, using as much as possible an age, gender and diversity approach, in order to fully understand protection concerns and priorities. Assess the resources available to the targeted displaced community to increase their own safety and protection.
  • Enhance and facilitate discussion on main protection concerns and response capacity within the displaced and the host communities.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessment and identify cases for assistance according to pre-defined criteria.
  • Refer protection cases to DRC Protection teams, DRC other departments, and/or relevant agencies, including updating the databases on case referral and follow up.
  • Ensure dissemination of clear and reliable information on service provision and other pre-selected key topics.
  • Conduct information sessions, record feedback (comments, suggestions) and report results back to Protection Officer on issues of concern with recommended areas of intervention.
  • Maintain constructive relationships with municipalities, other local government institutions, local NGO partners and other international organizations in coordination with the other team members.

Capacity Building

  • Support existing localized protection groups and form new community-based protection groups in mobile safe space locations.
  • Hold regular follow-up meetings with community-based groups and assist in the development of ‘community action plans’ to address protection concerns.
  • Contribute to identification and reporting on protection risks as necessary.
  • Contribute to capacity building of local organizations, community groups, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to comprehensive capacity building plans for local partners based on respective needs in order to support quality interventions.
  • Support the provision of trainings utilizing developed training packages and other materials to local partners, community groups, and stakeholders, in coordination with the Project Managers;
  • Facilitate trainings related to Community Based Protection, as well as general protection principles to DRC’s partners and internal staff.

Other

  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure transparency and DRC’s positive regard and reputation within communities.
  • This position requires frequent travel between base/sub-offices/community centers/mobile centers, and will also require participation in community outreach.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have the following:

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

 

Essential qualification:

  • Education: University degree in management, social sciences or similar field, or undergraduate degree with demonstrated strong experience; Advanced university degree would be an asset
  • Relevant professional experience of not less than 2 (two) years;
  • Familiarity/prior experience with DRC and its persons of concern (including internally displaced persons and refugees-returnees) would be a distinct advantage;
  • Familiarity with digital data collection
  • Familiarity/prior experience with NGO sector would be an advantage.
  • Good spoken and written Arabic and relevant computer skills.
  • Full respect for client/organization confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs and other vulnerability.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player
